The Napier City Council's trying to stop the Local Government Commission from using what it slams as an 'appalling' report on amalgamation.
The report shows debt and asset levels for four councils in Hawke's Bay being considered for amalgamation.
It's suggesting each council's debt is ring-fenced for five years, if the merge goes ahead.
Napier City Council chief executive Wayne Jack says the commission has its figures for Napier wrong, by about half-a-billion dollars.
It wants the report withdrawn.
"At the moment they are saying they stand by the report which is a concern. We will follow that up with a letter to them identifying all the errors in the report very soon."
Wayne Jack says the report's figures on Napier are wrong - to the tune of nearly half-a-billion dollars.
He says it's appalling this report has been released, when the commission is about to survey the public on support for amalgamation.
