ob体育接口 has launched  鈥 a national campaign showcasing amazing stories of inspiration, success, courage and possibilities.

A thirst for knowledge has led Martin Keegan from Taranaki to be named the 2025 New Zealand Dairy Manager of the Year at the Dairy Industry Awards.

On Saturday night, Keegan received the award in front of over 620 people at Mt Maunganui鈥檚 Baypark Stadium, along with  from Waikato, who were named the , and Pieter Van Beek from Hawke鈥檚 Bay/Wairarapa who was announced as the 2025 New Zealand Dairy Trainee of the Year.

Judges found Keegan had been on a quick journey into the dairy industry and had committed to extensive learning, taking every opportunity he could.

Head judge Janine Swansson from DairyNZ noted Keegan excelled across all aspects of the farm with high-level knowledge and excellent practical farming skills.

Raised on a dairy farm, Keegan trained as a diesel mechanic and spent 10 years working in New Zealand and Canada as a field service technician specialising in tractors and harvesting equipment.

The judges said he was conscientious, with great attention to detail and a thirst for learning.

鈥淲e think he loves his cows as much as his tractors!鈥

The judges said Keegan learned a vast array of skills across all levels of farming in his first season of dairy farming.

鈥淲e were impressed with his attention to detail across animal welfare and how highly he values them 鈥 he was so detailed on every aspect and learning about mastitis management, breeding and reproduction."

鈥淗is hunger to learn is outstanding,鈥 noted judge Ken Short.

鈥淚t鈥檚 pretty cool for the future of the industry.鈥

The first-time entrant also won the DairyNZ People and Leadership Award, the CowManager Livestock Management Award, the Personal Planning and Financial Management Award, and over $16,000 in prizes.

The judges were impressed with Keegan鈥檚 financial acumen and his commitment to 鈥渄oing the right thing to do for the environment鈥.

鈥淎ll the finalists are aware of environmental sustainability 鈥 they don鈥檛 see it as an option, it鈥檚 just part of their everyday farming business.鈥

The Dairy Manager of the Year runner-up, Thomas Lundman from Bay of Plenty, won over $8000 in prizes and three merit awards 鈥 the Fonterra Dairy Management Award, the Craigmore Environmental Sustainability Award and the DeLaval Sustainable Pasture Award.

, from Canterbury/North Otago placed third and won over $6000 in prizes.

He is farm manager on Andrew and Hayley Slater鈥檚 113ha, 440-cow property at Darfield.
